Digital Subscriber Line – works with copper cable and offers high-speed connectivity, as opposed to older technologies, such as dial up internet that worked through a landline with a modem.
The digital line subscriber element simply refers to the internet running over the phone line.
DSL still applicable?
Although ADSL services are on its way out, areas that do not have fibre infrastructure as yet will still be able to recieve ADSL services. However, existing DSL networks are no longer getting maintained and in the event of a breakage fibre or wireless connectivity will be offered as the alternative option for quality connectivity.
